Please consider calling our representative to support Immigration issues.

These bills in the NM Legislature help to protect immigrants from deportation:

1) SB 36 "Sensitive Personal Information Non-Disclosure Act" prohibits state employees (most importantly at the MVD) from disclosing personal information, including immigrant status.

2) SB 250 "State Enforcement of Immigration Law" which bars state & local agencies from dedicating any public resources to federal immigration enforcement. (Republicans have put forward an opposing bill that prohibits this ban)

3) SB 177 "U-Visa Certification" which requires law enforcement personnel to certify undocumented victims of crime (giving them U-Visa status).

The NM Immigrant Law Center is promoting an "Immigrant Safety" bill (based on the Dignity not Detention laws in other states) to be carried by Christine Chandler & Eleanor Chavez, but is not named in any registry of bills. We believe that it would prohibit undocumented immigrants from being detained in NM for-profit prisons

Now is the time to encourage our representatives to support & vote for these bills. Here are their names & (what we think are the best ways to contact them: Please call often - can contact them every day!
