Taos Immigrant Allies (TIA) was launched by a small group of volunteers in November of 2016 as a subgroup of Taos United to assist Taos County immigrant families.

In 2020 we operated under the 501(c) 3 nonprofit B’nai Shalom Havurah, which allowed us to receive multiple grants and give tax deduction letters for donations. In 2025, we formed our own 501(c)(3), Taos Supports Taos (EIN 39-2754496), and TIA is now run as a DBA of that Non-Profit Corporation.

Our Work in the Community:

• TIA worked with the Town of Taos and Taos County to help pass the Immigrant Friendly Community Resolution in 2017.
• Since 2019, our Little Free Pantry program has provided emergency food 24/7 for the entire community.
• During the COVID pandemic, we dispersed funds (approx. $265,000) for rent, utilities, food, and other dire needs. We prioritized their most urgent needs during this time, dispersing funds for rent, utilities, food, and dire needs. We also helped neighbors in filling out applications for NM Emergency Rent and Utilities Assistance. TIA coordinated 33 COVID vaccination clinics in collaboration with other local organizations; over 3000 COVID vaccines were provided without requiring ID, insurance or appointments.
• In 2022 we launched a women’s support group which progressed to English as a Second Language classes; these classes are ongoing.
• TIA helped people with end of life issues, medical equipment, home repairs, and fees for DACA and other application fees pertaining to legal status. We have assisted at the border, making trips to deliver. donations in the form of clothes, food, money, and medicines to shelters in El Paso and Juarez.
• TIA has organized events to educate the community about immigration issues and local needs, bringing in immigration lawyers, volunteers from border organizations, representatives of the Mexican Consulate, and authors and other experts. We have provided Know Your Rights training for local businesses, organizations, and congregations.
• In 2025, in collaboration with UNM Taos and the Taos Education and Career Center, we began offering classes for individuals preparing to applying for U.S. citizenship.
• In 2025, we established an ICE Watch rapid response group.
