Resolutions<\/span><\/div>

Town’s Commitment to Constitutional Rights <\/a><\/strong>(Resolution 26-09; February 2026)<\/a>
\nTaos County Resolution 2019-60<\/strong> (A Resolution declaring that the wholesale removal of children from their immigrant parents in cases of misdemeanor cases is a violation of human rights, causes potential child trauma and physical harm, and supporting the efforts of state and federal officials to promote reunification of children with their families.)
\nTaos Support for Dreamers<\/strong> (Resolution 17-56, December 2017)
\nTaos County Immigrant Friendly Resolution<\/strong> (Resolution 2017-22, April 2017)<\/p>\n

Relevant Policies:<\/strong>
\nTaos County Adult Detention Center (2014-14):
\n1. Update to policy prohibiting any staff from notifying ICE regarding any detainee at TCADC.
\n2. Prohibits asking a detainee about their place of birth or country of origin upon admission.
\n3. Prohibits telephone communication between a detainee and ICE unless court ordered.
\n4. Prohibits detaining someone based solely on an immigration detainer; must be accompanied by
\nan arrest warrant.<\/p>\n

Taos County Sheriff\u2019s Department (Chapter 18):<\/strong>
\n1. Updates the Department\u2019s policy prohibiting bias-based profiling.
\n2. Prohibits Department personnel from initiating, prolonging, or expanding the scope or
\nduration of an investigatory or enforcement activity in order to determine a person\u2019s
\nimmigration status.<\/p>\n

The state of New Mexico has also passed laws that protect our immigrant neighbors, including:
\nThe Immigrant Safety Act<\/strong><\/a> (HB 9, passed 2026)
\nThe Office of New Americans<\/strong> (HB 12, passed 2026)
\nDriver Privacy and Safety Act<\/strong> (SB 40, \u00a0passed 2026)
\nFreedom from Unwanted Surveillance Act<\/strong> (SB 556, passed 2013)[\/vc_column_text]
